It is the start of the New Year and most people have resolved to try a fitness program to get in shape and be healthy.

Fitness experts from Leigh Valley Health Network and Healthy You Fitness in Allentown want to inform people that there are four easy tests that you can do at home that will gauge strength, flexibility and

aerobic endurance.

Simply begin with seeing how many times you can stand up and sit down in a chair for thirty seconds.

The ideal number of times is thirty but experts say 25 and up is good. This test is called the chair stand test and checks lower body strength.

The arm curl test is to see how many arm curls with dumbbells to see how many curls can be achieved in the same amount of time as the chair stand test. Women should use five pound dumbbells and men eight pounds. Normally, the outcome should be 30, one for every second. However, 27 and above is still considered good.

The three minute step test. Either use a 12" platform or a step. Attempt to do 24 steps each minute. When three minutes are done, check your heart rate. This measures your aerobic endurance. It evaluates your ability to continually exercise in an oxygen rich environment that measures your heart and lung efficiency along with level of health.

By doing the fitness test at home every six months will show you where you have improved. This will keep you motivated to continue exercise. It will also show you where you need improvement so your exercise program can be adjusted.

For exact details on the test it can be viewed online at Leigh Valley Health Network. At Healthy You Fitness Center you can view a chart which will show you exactly where you are at online at Healthy Fitness Center Chart.

Cardio and aerobics provide overall health benefits.

You release the negative emotions and adrenaline causing you to become more relaxed and calm and decreasing your anxiety.

It aides in improving endurance and decreases your fatigue.

Research has shown it is a mood elevator. Through the exercises your serotonin levels become heightened.

Muscle and bone strength is improved due to the fact living tissues respond to exercise by becoming stronger.
